A brief history of PrideCharlotte
PRIDE Charlotte was born in 2006 after organizers of the former festival producer, Charlotte Pride, Inc, decided not to produce a festival due to burn out and other reasons. A Task Force of 17 people took over the project and affiliated it with the Lesbian and Gay Community Center of Charlotte.
The festival was moved from Marshall Park to its current location, Gateway Village.
Highlights of PRIDE Charlotte 2007 include:
* Over 6,000 in attendance
* Sold out vendor fair with over 70 vendors
* Entertainment featuring Christy Snow, The Near Misses, One Spirit Choir, Kat Williams, Seth Boulton, One Voice Chorus, Sister Funk, drag kings and queens.
* Speakers representing local government, sponsors and community organizations

Cooper Lawrence to emcee Pride Charlotte
Pride Charlotte is excited to announce our celebrity emcee!
COOPER LAWRENCE is a developmental psychologist and the host of her own nationally syndicated radio show, The Cooper Lawrence Show, from Dial Global, airing weekdays M-F 7pm-10pm ET . Cooper is also the author of Been There, Done That, Kept The Jewelry (Adams Media/Polka Dot Press) CosmoGIRL’s All About Guys (Sterling Publications) and her newest book out January 2008, Cult of Perfection: Make Peace With Your Inner Overachiever (Globe Pequot/Skirt!) along with many published articles for magazines.
Cooper appears regularly on CNN’s Showbiz Tonight, and Fox News Live and has been seen on The Today Show, The Insider, The Morning Show With Mike and Juliet, CNN Presents, The CW11 Morning News, Your World with Neil Cavuto, Nancy Grace, and Fox & Friends. She has also been featured in print for IN STYLE Magazine, The New York Post, The New York Daily News, Star Magazine, Skirt!, Cosmopolitan Magazine, and US Weekly. Cooper’s first magazine cover was in February 2007 for Today’s Charlotte Woman Magazine.
Cooper is also on the advisory board for CosmoGIRL! Magazine, where she writes a regular column called The Love Doctor and has consulted for actress Mariska Hargitay’s Joyful Heart Foundation.

Kat Williams has been performing at pride festivals for a short time but at every event that she performs, she captures the audience's hearts with her exceptional vocal range. This recent transplant to Charlotte performed at Pride Charlotte 2006 and was offered an automatic invitation to return after her warmup rendition of "Amazing Grace". Kat performs all over the country in jazz clubs, weddings and at private functions with a style consisting of R&B and jazz classics, blues, and original tunes. katwilliams.com
Melissa Reaves has been delighting audiences throughout the United States and Europe for more than a decade with her rock, funk and rhythm & blues-based sound. Reaves is a powerful vocalist and guitar player whose style ranges from driving rock & roll to a funk and groove sound that lends itself to a diverse repertoire of originals as well as some occasional choice covers. In 1999, Melissa won the Lilith Fair Talent Search for the Charlotte area and performed on the main stage at the festival with Sheryl Crow and Sarah McLachlan. In January 2000, Melissa was chosen to participate in a "Women of the Millennium" showcase at the MIDEM conference in Cannes, France and toured in both England and France including opening for Robert Plant of Led Zepplin. melissareaves.com
Jimmy Roland has been entertaining audiences with a voice that is reminiscent of Luther Vandross, yet he still possess a style that is recognized as his own. Jimmy knows how to get an audience (that is ready to party) up and dancing. As a headline performer, he has shared billing with such artists as Patti LaBelle, The Village People, and Joan Jett & The BlackHearts to name a few. Christy Snow joins us again in 2007 as an emcee and performer. Christy began performing professionally in 1991 and after leaving her job as a Marketing Specialist in 1999 she began touring full time at women's music festivals, folk festivals, folk venues and churches. Christy has a very diverse folk style of music that has been described as both playful and spiritual and leads the listener on a path of empowerment, self-love and present moment awareness. christysnow.com
The Near Misses are an all-female quartet featuring some of North Carolina's finest vocal talent. One Voice Chorus – is the Gay, Lesbian and Gay-affirmative Chorus of Charlotte. With its non-auditioned singing members of from all walks of life, One Voice exists to present a face and voice of the LGBT community at a time when visibility and understanding is paramount. In fact, it's the chorus mission to use music to reach diverse groups in order to promote inclusion of LGBT people.
Sotto Voce, an auditioned ensemble of One Voice, provides a portable element to the full chorus, performing at a number of public events throughout the year.

The Queen City Outlaws are the country/western dance group of Southern Country Charlotte.
